How to Become a Millionaire

Start by being a Billionaire.

It's an old joke. But the concept has two very important truths that you need to consider.

The First Truth: Whatever level of income you are at, if you spend more than you earn, you are not on the path to wealth. If you are a billionaire and spend your money lavishly and foolishly, you very well might end up as a millionaire.

The Second Truth: The concept of "The Rich get Richer....." is true. If you are a Billionaire, with $1 billion in the bank, overnight for one night, your money has earned $2,192. That would be $66,667. per month. In less than 14 months, your invested billion dollars will create another million dollars.

But, even without starting as a billionaire, it is very conceivable that if you focus on your goal and follow the laws of money, you WILL be a millionaire.

Step 1

DEFINE what being a millionaire means to you.

A banker will consider you a millionaire if your aasets are worth more than your liabilities by a million dollars. Depending on what those assets are though, it is quite likely that they could be valued differently tomorrow.

YOU may define being a millionaire as having a bank account with one million dollars of disposable income.

KNOW exactly what your goal is, and be prepared to work toward it.
Step 2

Assess your current situation.

IF you possess Aladdin's lamp, you will likely be able to obtain your goal in no time at all.

If not, you need to assess exactly where you are, what your skill set is, and what steps you will need to accomplish your goal.

Even though I don't know your circumstances, I do know the path to get you where you want to go. If you follow these directions, you will eventually be able to reach your goal. The unknown factor is how much time it will take to get you there. Another factor, known only to you, is how much effort will you make to get here? What things will you do to accelerate yourself to the goal?
Step 3

Make a Lot of Money!

Find a way to make money.

You need to start with something. Your basic needs: food, shelter, and clothing need to be taken care of. If you have a family, you will need to attend to their needs as well.

Obviously a job is a good way to start. There are other ways of making money, such as selling assets or being self employed, which are all fine. The goal is to have a consistent financial income, and a job is a good place to start.
Step 4

Find a way to Make MORE money!

Now, CONSTANTLY ASSESS! Find a way to make more money than what you do. Perhaps you need more formal education. An investment of a few years of college gives you better earning potential for your entire life. Make yourself promotable. Discover what your company wants in its management, and BE that.

Perhaps you need to have a part time job as well for a while. Perhaps you are interested in making money from your home, such as selling on Ebay.

Always keep your eyes and ears open to opportunity. But weigh each opportunity carefully. Often that opportunity can come within the same company where you work. Sometimes that opportunity needs to come in a new job or perhaps even a new career.
Step 5

Spend a LITTLE money!

Live below your means.

Today's biggest temptation is to have it all and to have it all now. The problem is that the cost of that immediate requirement is often putting yourself deep in debt. You want to do the opposite.

My uncle grew up very poor on a 20 acre farm. He and his brothers started a small business. While his siblings were buying bigger homes and fancier cars, he lived in a modest home and focused on reinvesting his capital into his portion of the business. Ultimately he was richer by far over his brothers and ultimately had far greater assets. Simply put, it was his dedication to allowing his investments to grow over time while he lived comfortably but modestly for several years that propelled him to wealth.
Step 6

PAY YOURSELF. Pretend it's a car payment, and pay it to yourself and invest it. Starting NOW!

Understand the concept that you have a higher potential to make more money in a venture that has more risk. Likewise, you can lose a lot more money in a venture that has more risk.

I suggest you start your portfolio of very solid (lower earning) investments. Start with 3 months salary in a savings account for family emergencies.

Progress to some solid known return items such as CDs.

There are other articules about investments. This one is about making you a millionaire.

Try to invest a minimum of 10% of your income in known return items. Let's use 8% as a return goal, and we'll assume an income of $40,000. If you wait until the end of the year to invest $4,000, you will have $4,000 at 12/31
Step 7

CONTINUALLY INCREASE your EARNINGS and your INVESTMENT amount.

That may seem difficult but isn't as tough as it seems. If you work for the same company for years, you will most likely increase your salary annually by receiving raises. If you aren't getting consistent annual raises, you need to reasses yourself and your job.

The important thing to remember is to invest more each time you make more. This is one of the secrets to real wealth.
Step 8

UNDERSTAND and USE the POWER of COMPOUNDING INTEREST

If you wait until the end of the year to invest $4,000, you will have $4,000 at 12/31.

If you invest $333.33/month for each of the 12 months of the same year, at year end you will have $4,149.93. That's not too impressive, but after 10 years, the numbers look like this:

$4000 invested at year end for 10 years = $ 41,221.58

$333.33/month invested for 10 years = $60,981.40

That hardly seems like it's going to make you a millionaire. But let's change just two factors, and see how you DO get there.

Let's change the number of years to 40. We'll assume you start working around 20, and can retire by 60. That means you can start at 25, retire at 65, and still obtain your million dollars.

Did you say you only wanted $1 million?

If you invested your $4,000/year annually for 40 years, you will have your $1,036,226.

If you invest your $333.33/month faithfully for 40 years, invested at 8%, you can retire with $1,163,657.64.

But, you've

ELIMINATE your credit card debt.

That doesn't mean eliminate your credit cards. Use them often. In fact, use them for almost everything you buy. But pay them off when the bill comes in. That will build your credit.

But you don't want a lot of outstanding credit card debt, because the Power of Compounding Interest works in the favor of the credit card companies a whole lot quicker than it does for you. The amount of interest that you can earn is usually far less than what the credit card companies charge. Remember the Power of Compounding interest works both ways.
Step 10

Be AGGRESSIVE!

If you truly want to be a Millionaire, chances are you want to do it quickly. Use the SAME steps. Push them harder. Find ways to make more money. Find ways to save more money. Find ways to invest more money quicker. Each little tweaking of the formula will move your goal into site much quicker.
Step 11

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER:

Year One:
Start with your $40,000 salary and invest 10% (on a monthly basis, not on an annual basis.) End result: $4,149.93

Year Two:
Your salary increases to $44,000
Invest 10% on a monthly basis, coupled with
earnings on the $4,149.93 already saved. Result: $ 9,059.30

You're not rich yet. But after just 10 years of saving in the same manner, you would have invested $63,749 and change, and would have a cash balance of $91,320. Nice, but not a million!

After 20 years of consistent saving and investment, you would have input $229,097 and would have $439,562. Hmmm. Getting interesting!

After 26.25 years on the same course,
Input: $ 448,640.
Available: $1,000,306!

It's a long time. But there's your million dollars. And you aren't close to retirement. If you start at 20, you will only be 46 years old
Step 12

STAY THE COURSE:

As your investment grows, your sense of security and well being grows with it. If you enjoy your work, you'll want to keep on working. If you don't like what you are doing, you'll have enough socked away to find what you DO want to do.

But, the best advice I can give is for you to stay the course. Change jobs, fine. But life spans are getting longer. As long as you are healthy, work in happiness, and continue contributing.

If you continue the same path for the 40 years originally mentioned, you can retire with not one million dollars, but $5,122,791.

Every small change, particularly early in the game will influence your final numbers. If you can only eek out a 6% adjustment per year, you can still retire with roughly $2.5 million. If you started late, and only have 30 years to invest, you can still retire with $1,590,000.

Or, if your starting salary was only $20,000, after 40 years, you can still reach $1,261,900 with only 6% increases.

It is all about CONSISTENCY, and the POWER OF COMPOUNDING INTEREST, and TIME.

so proud of my baby today! =) my brother gave him ice cream and after one mouthful, i told my brother to stop but since he saw the my son was loving it, he kept on giving it to him. i told caden to stop eating. while my brother was giving him the ice cream, i told caden not to eat it or i will get angry and spank him. and you know what caden did? ... he pushed my brother's hand away from him. hahaha... my brother was so amused by what my son did that he tried to give him again and caden still did the same thing. i'm so proud of my son! but i saw how sad caden was to not be able to eat the ice cream, so kawawa (pitiful) his face =( . but then again. i'm proud of him for listening to his mommy =) hope he will always listen to me even when he grows up =)

went to sm megamall today for the toy kingdom warehouse sale at megahall b! i arrived around 1pm, then started to go around pulling a big box of cartoon behind me =) as i was looking around, dragging a big box is keeping me from going in between the aisle so i decided to swap it with a smaller one. i soon found out that i needed the first one more. =) its a good thing a very kind salesman found me a push cart so i don't have to drag around the gifts. it was fun shopping. ( now im thinking of how i'm going to pay for them. =) lol! most of the items are 50% off. there were some 70% too. there were sooo many toys. i already bought caden gift for his birthday so i need one for christmas... but... hahaha..i think i bought like 6 kinds of gifts for him =)) lol...hay... anyways, i was such i good girl coz i didnt' over spend. the check out line was sooo long, i think the falling in line part took much of my time then scouting out for toys! i left toy kingdom at 6pm! can't wait for the richwell toy sale!!!

General cleaning

Before anything else, talk to your insurance agent and ask if your
insurance covers Acts of God like floods and earthquakes. List down the
damage and take photos of the house to help your insurance company assess
the situation. Remove as much mud as you can from the floors and walls,
then use a hose to wash the surfaces. Using an anti-bacterial, all-purpose
house cleaner, disinfect every surface and piece of furniture. It's
important that your house cleaner have anti-bacterial properties because
floodwaters are teeming with pathogens and bacteria.

The kitchen

Soak all dishes, porcelain, plastic dinnerware, and glasses in a gallon of
hot water with 2 tablespoons of chlorine bleach. Leave them out to dry. Do
not towel-dry. Disinfect all metal utensils, pots, and pans by boiling
them in water for 10 minutes. Do not use chlorine bleach because it will
cause the metals to darken. Clean the counters and cupboards with the
anti-bacterial house cleaner before storing the dishes, glasses, and
utensils.

Refrigerators

Sanitize the refrigerator if water has seeped in. Be sure the motor and
freezing unit are in safe working order and insulation is not wet. Wet
insulation means replacement may be necessary.
1. Remove and wash all shelves, crispers and ice trays. Wash thoroughly
with water and detergent. Rinse with a disinfectant solution.
2. Wash the interior of the refrigerator, including the door and door
gasket, with hot water and baking soda. Rinse with a disinfectant
solution.
3. Leave the door open for about 15 minutes to allow free air
circulation.
4. If odor remains, place several pieces of activated charcoal in an open
metal container, or use a commercial refrigerator deodorizer.
5. Wash the outside with a mild detergent and hot water.

Furniture and personal belongings

Let furniture, bedding, clothing, and rugs out to dry as soon as the
floods recede. Keep your windows open to ventilate the room with air from
outside to avoid developing molds and mildew. If molds and mildew are
already there, vacuum the floors, walls, and ceiling to remove them, then
wash with a disinfectant. Mattresses and stuffed toys contaminated by
flood waters have to be thrown away. Upholstered furniture can still be
salvaged and cleaned by a professional. Do not attempt to clean them
yourself because the upholstery soaked up a lot of the bacteria from the
floodwaters. Unless the damage was severe, solid wood furniture can still
be restored. Dry out all photographs, books, and papers carefully.
Appliances will be affected by silt deposits, gritty deposits, and
stained. Have them cleaned, sanitized, and serviced by a professional.
Never plug in uncleaned electronics; you may end up short-circuiting the
electronic components and shocking yourself.

Making your home typhoon-proof

In case you haven't prepared your home for the strong rains and wind, here
are a few tips for making your home typhoon-proof.
Check your roof for rust. If you find any, scrape it off with a steel
brush then finish off with sandpaper to make the surface smooth. Also
inspect your roof for loose nails. If there are any, hammer them down and
seal them with plastic roof cement. Finally, apply an anti-rust primer
before painting your roof with a roof-guard paint.
The most important thing to do is to fix the leaks on your roof. Leaking
roofs can cause ugly stains on your walls and can even flood your basement
and damage the foundation. To prevent this from happening, clean out your
gutters at least once a year. Patch up a leak as soon as you spot one.
Clean your gutter and make sure that they are free from dead leaves or
debris as these could clog up your drain. After cleaning, use a hose to
flush out the gutter and watch out for any leaks. Look for rusty patches
and cover up the small holes with a coat of roof guard paint. If the rust
ate away large holes, replace the entire area with a new one. Seal off
your gutter with an aluminum sealing strip.

The following are few tips and advice you could do in order to prepare
yourself for any flood inevitability.

Expect the expected
It is important that you clearly understand and that you are aware of any
damages that a flood could cause. Some of these inevitabilities include
boulders that are rolling, trees that are ripped right out from the
ground, buildings that are destroyed as well as bridges, sliding debris.

Do not be afraid to ask
It is also vital that you ask around your local zoning and planning office
as to whether the property you are on is below the level of the flood or
above it. Also, it is always good to know if the area you are in has had a
history of being flooded.
This knowledge helps a lot in the preparation of activities and tasks to
do in case if a flood does hit.

Familiarize yourself
In your own community, it is best that you familiarize yourself in any or
all of the warning signals or signs whenever a flood does occur.

Learn, learn, learn
Know what are your community's plan for evacuation. This helps you prepare
yourself as well as your family and friends as on what to do as well as
the step by step drill.

Have an insurance
It helps if you have insurance that is tailored particularly when a flood
occurs. Believe it or not, the insurance usually associated with home
owners will really not be able to reimburse any damages you may have that
are caused by floods.

Keep all vital documents
These documents include any policies for insurance, passports, birth
certificates, etc.
All these papers should - as much as possible - be kept in a box that is
waterproof and one which could be accessed easily.

Move, move, move
If in case your fireplace, furnace, electricity panel or water heater is
in the basement or first floor of your house, you could consider moving it
up the attic.
In that way it will be a lot less probable for these to be damaged by
raging floodwaters.

Plug it all
Plugging all trap sewers you have in your house using check valves
actually prevent any floodwater from going into the drains of your house.
During emergencies, using large stoppers or corks is also a good idea to
plug tubs and sinks.

Check and build
Checking with the local codes of buildings is a good idea as this will let
you know whether it is okay to build walls for floods and to be used as
barriers around your own house in order to prevent any floodwater from
getting in your premises.

Waterproof it all
In order to protect walls of basements, seal them using waterproof
compounds so that floodwaters would be unable to get in through any
cracks.

Have a radio and some supplies
As much as possible, keep a radio that is operated by batteries if in case
the power goes off.
Having supplies such as canned goods is a must as well as first aid kits.
Do not forget a can opener of course.

All in all, preparation is always the best defense against floods.

Unbeknownst to many, my family and I are experts when it comes to flooding.
By this I mean that for almost 10 years when we lived in a low part of Sto.
Domingo Street in Quezon City , we experienced flooding INSIDE the house at
least once a year and if I remember correctly, sometimes it was twice or
even thrice a year.

The first time it happened we were in shock, but as it happened more and
more it became routine. Here are some nuggets of wisdom that may help:

1. I learned that once the water reaches knee level, the gates can't be
opened anymore because of the water pressure. We thought we still had time
to take the cars out but realized we were trapped. That time our cars
submerged. Make sure you know which area near your residence is considered
higher ground and take your cars there EARLY.

2. Do not despair so much if your cars submerge. They can be fixed. It's
expensive and takes a long time for the smell to go away, but it's not the
end of the world. After the flood, just let the car dry. We were still able
to use our Hi-Ace and Mitsubishi Lancer despite their having been half
submerged in floodwaters.

3. I learned that heavy stuff, like the ref and shelves, FLOAT. So every
year from then on, we would TIE DOWN heavy appliances like the ref (too
heavy to carry upstairs but in latter years we did lug it all the way up to
the 2nd floor), the big shelves with wedding souvenirs and knick knacks and
my dad's collection of wine. How did we do that? Tie them to the windows.

4. Adrenalin will give you superpowers once you decide you're not afraid of
a little water and start saving what you can. In my case, it was my
collection of books. They're not rare first editions but regular books.
However, I love my books and I'm not letting them drown! I was able to move
and carry our heavy sofa powered by my body's own adrenalin hormone.

5. You can have fun in the midst of disaster so I took out our cameras and
starting taking pictures. It was to make everyone have a good laugh as we
surveyed the chaos around us, the cockroaches and rats swimming by, the
black inky spots of oily stuff occasionally floating around.

6. Apparently, no matter how much you're enjoying yourself frolicking in
the water and saving what you can, once the cold water reaches your chest
(especially your nipples), you start to shiver and it gets hard to breathe.
This is the time to give up and go upstairs.

7. If your electricity stays on, go to the switch box and turn off all the
electric outlets downstairs but not upstairs.

8. Cleaning after the flood is a pain. Once the waters recede, you are left
with mud everywhere. They stick so you have to get the hose and start using
the walis tingting (how do you say this in English? It's a broom made of
just think twigs/sticks tied together in a thick bundle). You just keep the
water running and sweep, sweep, sweep like there's no tomorrow.

9. You must scrub the walls with disinfectant. If you only rinse with
water, it will still smell. We used Lysol. Scrub, scrub, scrub like there's
no tomorrow.

10. First time water got inside our house, we didn't know we had to use
Lysol and that the drying process is super vital. So, after a few days,
there was this nauseating smell and later we found molds growing
everywhere! We had returned the furniture and appliances to their normal
places and the walls behind grew molds. Yuck!!!

11. We were still able to use our ref that floated in flood waters. Just
clean and clean and dry and dry.

12. Once electricity is available, get out all your fans and dry everything
thoroughly.

13. Yes, paint will peel off and wooden drawers and shelves deform. Salvage
what can be used. Once they dry, it's still ok but sometimes the drawers
get stuck because the wood expanded so you have no choice but to destroy it
because icky water is still trapped inside.

14. Wait at least 2 to 3 days to dry everything. Use fans and hairdryers.
Do not, I repeat, do not be in a hurry to return stuff you saved to their
original places.

15. Have this mindset: Ah, it's good Im now forced to do a general cleaning
of my house. Now I have no choice but to do it.

It is easy to go insane after this kind of calamity, to despair of the
material things we lost (especially the cars), but please be thankful you
got away with your life and that of your family and loved ones

Ingredients:

MEATBALLS
2 cups fresh bread crumbs
1/2 cup Carnation Evap
1/4 cup water
400 grams ground round
100 grams ground pork
1 cup onion, minced
2 tablespoons garlic, minced
1/4 cup parsley, minced
1 tablespoon fennel seeds, ground
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 tablespoons salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 pieces eggs, beaten

TOMATO SAUCE
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, sliced
1 can crushed tomatoes, 28 oz. can
2 tablespoons tomato paste
6 pieces basil leaves
salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

1. Place bread crumbs, milk and water in a medium bowl. Allow to steep for 3 minutes.

2. Add the ground meats, onion, garlic, parsley, fennel, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper.

3. Mix until just combined.

4. Add the eggs and mix until blended.

5. Cover bowl with a plastic film and allow mixture to rest for at least an hour.

6. To cook, using a 1 oz. scooper, scoop mixture and roll into balls.

7. Fry meatballs over medium heat in oil until browned and finish off cooking in the tomato sauce for another 5-7 minutes.

8. For tomato sauce: Place garlic and olive oil in large sauce pan.

9. Turn heat to medium and cook until garlic is soft and lightly browned.

10. Add the crushed the tomatoes and tomato paste.

11. Add basil, salt and pepper.

12.Bring to a boil, then lower heat to a simmer and cook until thickened approximately 20 to 25 minutes.

Successful potty training for boys

You'll miss many things once your baby grows up, but changing dirty diapers probably won't be one of them. Still, it doesn't pay to be in a hurry: Teaching your son how to use the potty will require time and patience on your part, and a reasonable degree of cooperation and motivation on your son's.

The key to potty training success is starting only when your son is truly able to do so. While some kids can start as young as 18 months, others may not be prepared to learn until well into their fourth year. As you may already have discovered, boys tend to stay in diapers longer than girls, and second (or subsequent) children often learn faster than firstborns. There's no point in trying to get a head start; studies show that when parents begin potty training too soon, the process simply takes longer to complete. In other words, you arrive at your destination at the same time, no matter when you start. So the first thing to do is use our checklist to see whether your son is primed for potty training.

Once you've determined that your son is ready, focus on timing. Make sure your child's routine is well established; if he's just started at preschool or has a new sibling, he may be less receptive to change, or feel too overwhelmed to tackle this new challenge. Wait until he seems open to new ideas so you can potty train successfully. To train, follow these steps:

Let him watch and learn

Toddlers learn by imitation, and watching you use the bathroom is a natural first step. He may notice that Daddy uses the potty differently from Mommy, which opens up a great opportunity for you to explain the basic mechanics of how boys use the bathroom. When talking about body parts, it's important to be anatomically precise. Teaching him to call his penis a "pee-pee" when every other body part has a more adult-sounding name may imply that his genitals are embarrassing.

Buy the right equipment

Most experts advise buying a child-sized potty, which your toddler can claim for his own and which will also feel more secure to him than a full-size toilet. (Many toddlers fear falling into the toilet, and their anxiety can interfere with potty training.) If you prefer to buy an adapter seat for your regular toilet, make sure it feels comfy and secure and attaches firmly. If you go this route, you'll also need to provide your son with a stool, since it's important that he be able to maneuver his way on and off the potty easily any time he needs to go and to stabilize himself with his feet to push during bowel movements.

When buying a potty-chair for your son, look for one without a urine guard (or one you can remove). While they may protect your bathroom from a little stray pee, more often they tend to bump into and scrape a boy's penis when he sits down on the potty, potentially causing him to associate going to the bathroom with pain. Yikes!

You may also want to pick up a few picture books or videos for your son, which can make it easier for him to grasp all this new information. Everyone Poops, by Taro Gomi, is a perennial favorite, as is Uh, Oh! Gotta Go! and Once Upon a Potty, which even comes in a version with a doll and a miniature potty.

Help your child get comfortable with the potty

This early in the process, your child needs to get used to the idea of using the potty. Start by letting him know that the potty-chair is his very own; you can personalize it by writing his name on it or letting him decorate it with stickers. Then have him try sitting on it with his clothes on. After he's practiced this way for a week or so, you can suggest he try it with his pants down. If he seems at all resistant, avoid any temptation to pressure him. That will only set up a power struggle that could derail the entire process.

If your child has a favorite doll or stuffed animal, try using it for potty demonstrations. Most children enjoy watching their favorite toy go through the motions, and may learn more this way than from you telling them what to do. Some parents even construct a makeshift toilet for the doll or stuffed animal; while your child is perched on his chair, his favorite toy can be sitting on its own potty. Get your son focused on the benefits of being potty trained by taking him on a special errand: buying underwear. Let him know that he gets to choose whatever kind he wants (superhero briefs or boxers, or ones emblazoned with other nifty designs). Talk up the outing ahead of time so he gets excited about being old enough to use the potty and wear "real" underwear just like his dad's or older brother's.

Set up a training schedule

Getting your toddler out of diapers will depend on your daily schedule and whether your son is in daycare or preschool. If he is, you'll want to coordinate your strategy with his daycare provider or teacher.

You'll have to decide whether to use the back-and-forth method of switching between diapers and underpants or the cold-turkey method of going to underwear full-time. While disposable training pants are convenient, many experts and parents find it's best to transition right into underwear or old-fashioned cotton training pants, both of which allow your son to feel immediately when he's wet. That, of course, will make it more likely that you'll be cleaning up some accidents. You'll have to decide what's best for you and your son; his pediatrician may recommend one or the other. For a while, at least, you'll want to continue using diapers or disposable pants at night and on long trips out and about. And your daycare provider or preschool teacher will have her own opinion on when to switch to underpants at school.

Teach him to sit first, then stand

Since bowel movements and urine often come at the same time, it makes sense initially to have your son sit for both poop and pee so he learns that both belong in the potty. Also that way he won't get distracted by the fun of spraying and learning to aim when you need him to concentrate on just mastering the basic procedure.

Once your son is comfortable going to the bathroom sitting down, he can try the standing position (but there's no reason to rush this; he can sit as long as he likes). This is where having a readily available male role model is key. Make sure your son can follow Dad, an uncle, or a good family friend to the bathroom to watch him pee. When your son seems to get the idea, let him give it a try. If he seems reluctant, try floating a few pieces of O-shaped cereal or other small, flushable objects in the toilet bowl for target practice, and expect to clean up a few messes as your son perfects his aim. If you're not squeamish about him peeing in the yard, you can paint or tape a target on a tree.

Set aside some naked time

Nothing helps your toddler figure out when he needs to go like letting him spend some time bottomless. Put the potty in an accessible area while he plays, and encourage him to sit on it at regular intervals. (But of course if he's going to play naked, you'll have to steel yourself not to get upset when the floor gets wet. Putting plastic over the carpets can help with this.) Watch for signs that he has to go (clutching himself or jumping up and down in place) and use these cues to suggest it's potty time. You can do this on several consecutive days, in the evenings when the family is all together, or just on weekends. The more time your child spends out of diapers, the faster he'll learn.

Celebrate triumphs

He will undoubtedly have a few accidents, but eventually your son will enjoy the accomplishment of getting something in the potty. Celebrate this moment with fanfare. Reinforce the idea that he's reached a significant milestone by rewarding him with a "big kid" privilege such as watching a new video or getting an extra bedtime story. But try not to make a big deal out of every trip to the potty, or else your child will start to feel nervous and self-conscious under the glare of all that attention.

If at first he doesn't succeed, try, try again

As with any other skill, the more he uses the potty, the better he'll be at it. But there are some things you can do to make it easier for him. Dress your child in loose-fitting clothes that he can easily take off himself, or buy underpants a size too big. If he still has trouble with the concept, don't overreact or punish. Nothing can disrupt potty training faster than making a child feel bad for having an accident. Keep in mind that even children who have used the toilet successfully for months occasionally have accidents when they are engrossed in an activity. If you feel frustrated, remind yourself that scolding your child for wetting his pants might mean months of diapers ahead.

Raise the fun factor

If you approach potty training with a little panache, your child will be more likely to stay motivated throughout the entire process. Drip some blue food coloring into the toilet and your child will be amazed at how he can turn the water green. Put several favorite books in the magazine rack next to the toilet so he can read them whenever he has to go — or better yet, read to him. Maybe he'd like to cut out paper shapes and use them for target practice.

If your child starts to lose interest but is well into potty training, you may want to consider offering rewards. One popular method is to use stickers and a calendar to keep track of his successes. Every time he goes to the potty, he gets a sticker that he can then paste onto the page. Watching the sticker bounty accumulate will keep him inspired. If the stickers themselves aren't enough of a thrill, you can offer an additional reward such as a treat from the candy aisle at the supermarket or a wished-for toy when he amasses enough stickers or stays dry for a certain number of days in a row. Move into night mode

Once your son stays dry all day, you can start formulating a game plan for nights. Wait until he's securely potty trained, then start checking his diapers in the mornings and after naps to see if they're dry. Many children start staying dry during their afternoon naps within six months of learning to use the toilet. Nighttime training is trickier, because it depends on your son's body being able to hold the urine for an extended period of time and on how deeply he sleeps. If he wants to try sleeping without diapers, go ahead and let him. Should a few nights of this experiment show he's not ready, put him back in diapers in a non-judgmental way. Tell him that his body is not quite ready for this next step, and reassure him that he'll soon be big enough to try again. If your child stays dry three out of five nights, make your "all-underwear, all-the-time" policy official. Support his attempts to stay dry by restricting how much he drinks after 5 p.m. and getting him up for a final bathroom trip before you go to bed. But if your child takes longer to stay dry at night, don't worry; nighttime accidents are considered normal up to at least the age of 7.

Ditch the diapers

By the time your child's ready to say good-bye to diapers altogether, he's accomplished a lot. Acknowledge this and reinforce his pride in his achievement by letting him give away leftover diapers to a family with younger kids or send them away with the diaper delivery service one last time. Or assist him in choreographing a joyful jig around the house and call it the "No more diapers" dance. The entire family can form a conga line and head to the potty when nature calls.

It probably seems like just yesterday that you changed your toddler's first diaper, and now you're wondering if it's time to start potty training. There's no magic age at which children are ready to start learning how to use the potty, but some develop the necessary physical and cognitive skills between 18 and 24 months of age. Many parents don't start potty training until their children are 2 1/2 to 3 years old, when daytime bladder control has become more reliable. And some children aren't interested in potty training until they're closer to 3, or even 4.

Use the checklist below to measure your toddler's progress toward readiness, and keep in mind that starting before your child is truly ready doesn't mean you'll finish sooner — it's more likely that the process will just end up taking longer.

You don't have to wait until you've checked off every item to start training. Just look for a general trend toward independence and an understanding of what it means to go to the bathroom like a grown-up.

Physical signs

Is coordinated enough to walk, and even run, steadily.

Urinates a fair amount at one time.

Has regular, well-formed bowel movements at relatively predictable times.

Has "dry" periods of at least three or four hours, which shows that his bladder muscles are developed enough to hold urine.

Behavioral signs

Can sit down quietly in one position for two to five minutes.

Can pull his pants up and down.

Dislikes the feeling of wearing a wet or dirty diaper.

Shows interest in others' bathroom habits (wants to watch you go to the bathroom or wear underwear).

Gives a physical or verbal sign when he's having a bowel movement such as grunting, squatting, or telling you.

Demonstrates a desire for independence.

Takes pride in his accomplishments.

Isn't resistant to learning to use the toilet.

Is in a generally cooperative stage, not a negative or contrary one.

Cognitive signs

Can follow simple instructions, such as "go get the toy."

Understands the value of putting things where they belong.

Has words for urine and stool.

Understands the physical signals that mean he has to go and can tell you before it happens or even hold it until he has time to get to the potty.

The ABCs of potty training

Most parents eagerly anticipate toilet training as a milestone in their child's development, if for no other reason than that it means an end to changing diapers. But few moms and dads are prepared for how long toilet training can take. Sure, some children master it within a few days, but others can take several months. In fact, it's generally true that the earlier you start, the longer it takes.

You and your child have a better chance of success if you understand the elements of training and approach the process in a clear fashion. Here are the basic steps:

A. Assess your child's readiness — and your own

Some children are ready to start potty training by 18 months or so, but others aren't interested in the process until they're closer to 3 years old. Many parents begin potty training when their children are about 2 and a half.

Watch for signs that your toddler is ready to start (can she follow simple instructions? can she walk and sit down?) but try not to put on the pressure. Rushing her when she's not ready will be counterproductive. And remember that what worked for your older child might not work for this one — boys tend to train a bit more slowly than girls, while second (and subsequent) children may learn more quickly than firstborns.

Look beyond your toddler's developmental readiness, too. If she's experiencing any turmoil or major change in her life, like a new school, caregiver, or sibling, the potty-training process is likely to hit some snags and should probably be put off until things have settled down.

There's also no sense in beginning potty training when you — or your child's primary caregivers — won't be able to devote time, patience, and a dash of humor to the process. If you're in the middle of remodeling your house, have just taken a challenging new job, or are suffering from morning sickness with your next pregnancy, it's probably not a good time to try to potty-train your toddler. Wait a couple of weeks — or months — for other pressures to ease.

B. Buy the right equipment

First and foremost, invest in a child-sized potty chair or a special adapter seat that attaches to your regular toilet. This eases the anxiety some children feel about the grown-up toilet — some fear falling into it, others dislike the loud noise of the flush. Figure out what equipment is best for your toddler before you go shopping.

If you have a boy and are buying a potty chair, look for one without a urine guard or with a removable one. You may have to wipe up a little more stray pee, but the guards tend to bump into and scrape a boy's penis when he sits on the potty, which can discourage him from training.

If you're using an adapter seat, make sure it's comfy and secure, and buy a stool to go with it. Your toddler will need the stool in order to get up and down from the toilet quickly and easily, as well as to brace her feet while sitting, which helps her push when she's having a bowel movement.

C. Create a routine

Set your toddler on the potty seat, fully clothed, once a day — after breakfast, before her bath, or whenever else she's likely to have a bowel movement. This will help her get used to the potty and accept it as part of her routine. If there's not an easily accessible bathroom around, bring your child's portable potty outside, to the playroom, or wherever your toddler may be.

Once she's fine with this routine, have her sit on the potty bare-bottomed. Again, let her get used to how this feels. At this point, let her know that this is what Mommy and Daddy (and any older siblings) do every day. That is, taking off your pants before you use the bathroom is a grown-up thing to do.

If sitting on the potty with or without clothes is upsetting to your toddler, don't push it. Never restrain her or physically force her to sit there, especially if she seems scared. It's better to put the potty aside for a few weeks before trying again. Then, if she's willing to sit there, you know she's comfortable enough to proceed.

D. Demonstrate for your child

Children learn by imitation, and watching you use the bathroom is a natural way to understand what using the toilet is all about. If you have a son, it's simpler to teach him to pee sitting down at this young age. Later, when he's mastered that, he can watch his dad, older brother, or friend pee standing up — he's bound to pick it up quickly with just a little encouragement.

When you demonstrate for your toddler, it's helpful to explain what's going on as you're using the bathroom and let her see afterward what you "made." Then show her how you wipe with toilet paper, pull up your underwear, flush the toilet, and wash your hands.

Even though you'll be helping your toddler with these activities for some time, especially wiping after a bowel movement, seeing you do it and hearing you talk through it will help her get used to the whole process. (When you wipe your toddler, make sure to go from front to back, especially after a bowel movement, to minimize the risk of urinary tract infections.)

If your toddler has older siblings or friends who are potty-trained, consider having them demonstrate, too. It can be helpful for your child to see others close to her age exhibiting the skills she's trying to learn.

E. Explain the process

Show your toddler the connection between pooping and the toilet. The next time she poops in her diaper, take her to the potty, sit her down, and empty the diaper beneath her into the bowl. Afterward, let her flush if she wants to (but don't force her if she's scared) so she can watch her diaper contents disappear.

You also may want to pick up a few potty-training picture books or videos for your toddler, which can assist her in taking in all this new information. Everyone Poops, by Taro Gomi, is a perennial favorite, as well as Uh Oh! Gotta Go! and Once Upon a Potty, which even comes in a version with a doll and miniature potty.

Keeping a book like this in the bathroom, or a poster or flipbook that illustrates the steps in using the potty, can help your toddler get familiar with the process and relate it to what she does in the bathroom.

F. Foster the habit

Encourage your toddler to sit on the potty whenever she feels the urge to go. If she needs help getting there and taking off her diaper, make sure she knows it's okay to ask you for help any time.

If you can, let her run around bare-bottomed sometimes with the potty nearby. The more time she spends out of diapers, the faster she's likely to learn, although you'll have to steel yourself to clean up a few more puddles. Tell her she can use the potty whenever she wants to, and remind her occasionally that it's there if she needs it.

Sometimes toddlers won't sit on the potty long enough to relax and let anything come out. Calmly encourage your toddler to sit there for at least a minute or so. You'll have the best luck getting her to stay put if you keep her company and talk to her or read her a book.

When your toddler uses the potty successfully, shower her with praise. Chances are that she'll continue to have accidents, but she'll start to grasp that getting something in the potty is an accomplishment. Still, try not to make a big deal out of every trip to the potty, or your toddler may start to feel nervous and self-conscious under the glare of all that attention.

G. Grab some training pants

Once training is under way, consider adding training pants — extra-thick cloth or disposables that pull on like underwear — to your routine. They'll allow your toddler to undress for the potty on her own, which is a critical step toward becoming completely potty-trained.

While cloth training pants are less convenient than disposable pull-ups, many parents say they work better because your toddler can really feel when she pees or poops in them. Whichever option you choose, introduce them gradually — probably for a few hours at a time — and stick with diapers at night for the time being.

When your child consistently seeks out the potty whenever she has to go, it's time to move on to "big-kid" underwear. Many moms and dads have found that undies with a favorite character on them give kids a dandy incentive to stay dry.

H. Handle setbacks gracefully

Virtually every child will have several accidents before being able to stay dry all day long. When this happens, don't get angry or punish your child. After all, it's only recently that her muscle development has allowed her to hold her bladder and rectum closed at all, and she's still learning why it's important to use the potty. Mastering the process will take time.

What can you do? Reduce the chance of accidents by dressing your toddler in clothes that are easy to remove quickly. When she has an accident anyway, calmly clean it up and suggest (sweetly) that next time she try using her potty instead.

I. Introduce night training

Don't give away that stash of diapers just yet. Even when your child is consistently clean and dry all day, it may take several more months, or even years, for her to stay dry all night. At this age, her body is still too immature to wake her up in the middle of the night reliably just to go to the bathroom.

When you're ready to embark on night training, your toddler should continue to wear a diaper or pull-up to bed, but encourage her to use the potty if she has to pee or poop during the night. Tell her that if she wakes up in the middle of the night needing to go, she can call you for help. You can also try putting her potty near her bed so she can use it right there.

If she manages to stay dry for five nights in a row, it's a good time to start nighttime training in earnest. Put a plastic sheet under the cloth one to protect the mattress, and put your toddler to bed in underwear (or nothing) and see how it goes.

There's not much you can do to help things along, short of limiting liquids before bedtime, so if your toddler doesn't seem to get the hang of it, put her back in nighttime diapers and try again in a few months.

J. Jump for joy — you're done!

Believe it or not, when your child is mentally and physically ready to learn this new skill, she will. And if you wait until she's really ready to start, the process shouldn't be too painful for either of you.

When it's over, reinforce her pride in her achievement by letting her give away leftover diapers to a family with younger kids, or by packing up the cloth diapers and sending them away with the diaper delivery service one last time.

And don't forget to pat yourself on the back. Now you won't have to think about diapers ever again — at least, not until the next baby.

Austin L. Sorensen once said that a child is not likely to find a father in God unless he finds something of God in his father. That does not mean, of course, that our fathers are God. It simply means that they must have the spirit of God inside of them.

And it does not mean that we should base our ideas about God on our fathers alone. But it does mean that fathers have the special task of giving their families an idea of how God is a Father to the world.

So, how is God our Father? What are his fatherly qualities that our fathers have the honor of showing?

First, the Father provides for all our needs. He is always there to protect us, lead us, comfort us, and feed us. In the book of Matthew, Jesus compared a father’s provisions to the Lord’s provisions. He asks, “Which of you would give your children stones when they ask for bread, or snakes when they ask for fish? If you, though you are sinful, know how to give good things to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give to those who ask him” (Matthew 7:9-11)!

Maybe our fathers are not perfect like God. Maybe they cannot always be there, and maybe they don’t always have the answer. But when they do their best to provide for us, they are already good fathers because they reflect God’s fatherly concern. We are really very blessed and thankful.

Second, the Father disciplines with love. When we do something wrong, he treats us lovingly but fairly.

Proverbs 3:11-12 says, “My son, do not resent the LORD’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father disciplines the son he delights in.”

Yes, discipline can be painful, and at the start, it can be hard to understand. In fact, only when I left home for college did I begin to understand some of the rules that my parents set for me. I realized that they gave me guidelines for living in a happy, healthy way, and with respect for myself and for other people.

So discipline is really a blessing, because it’s God’s way of making sure that we know what’s best for us. A truly loving, godly father does not abuse his children, but he does try to make sure that his children know what is God’s best for them.

Third, the Father’s love does not have to be earned. Godly fathers do not say, “I love you because you are a good student,” or, “I love you because you do what I say,” or, “I love you because you are good-looking.” This is because God himself does not say, “I love you because.” In fact, he says “Because I love you.”

In Romans 5, it says that because God loved us, he was willing to die for us even though we were sinful – even though we’re disobedient children. God the Father does what he does because he loves us.

In the same way, our fathers do their fatherly things because they love us – not because we obey them or because we are handsome or because we are gifted, but because they love us the way God loves us.

What is the result of this love? What is the legacy of your godly fatherhood?

Someone once said that the best legacy you can leave is a good example. By being godly, fathers raise children who are godly.

And the fathers themselves are called blessed. Proverbs 23:24 says, “The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.” What father isn’t proud when others say, “You have such good children!” Wouldn’t you be even prouder if you can say, “Oh, I taught them that! They got it from me!”

Even Jesus lived to follow in his father’s footsteps. In John 5:19-20, he told the Jews, “The Son can do nothing by himself; he can only do what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does.”

Those of us who have good fathers are blessed, because in their own way, they reflect the love of our heavenly Father. I am sorry if some of you did not have a father growing up, or if your father did not treat you well. But I trust, and I hope you also trust that your heavenly Father is taking care of you. And he has given all of us, his children, the task and privilege of showing his love where it was not felt before.

I thank God for good fathers, and I thank God for being our Father. I hope you all have a wonderful Father’s Day.

malvin and i went out today =D it's been so long since we went out together, just the two of us =D we went to araneta gateway to watch angels and demons on the globe platinum cinema (lazy boy chairs). sad that the popcorn and soda were not unlimited anymore =( i was so looking forward to stuffing myself with popcorn while watching the movie =D hehehe...the lazy boy was soooo relaxing. it's like you're watching in your home with a large lcd tv! =D after that we just strolled around and walked to sm and buy an LG microwave which only costs 2k (digital already) and some stuffs for caden then we went to eat at something like a steak house restaurant at the side of shopwise. the service was ok but the steak was tough and the gravy was just so-so. not something i would go back and eat again. i miss the steak at ortigas...hot rocks...yummy!!!! =D

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: "I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals But I do know this.. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

When you are DOWN to nothing... God is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment!

just came home from cabanatuan today. we ate dinner at rustico. not bad for 10pax for only 1800. the place was very classy and the food tastes good. =D i was very very happy to have spent the whole day with my side of the family. i miss them already =( it's very very seldom that i get to see them. i feel like crying =( huhuhu...getting married is real hard =( i got separated with my parents and brothers. then i don't get to see them often since my mom lives very far away and my brother lives in cabanatuan. unlike before, when i feel like going to my parents or my brothers, i just go! now, there's so many "bawal". huhuhu...

i went to bulacan sale yesterday with my mother in law and i bought all of this! =D well, mine was just the 5 pcs of plastic bag and the big transparent plastic at the back is my moms. i went today again with my mother in law and sister in law. i bought another half transparent bag! gosh! =D there were just a few stocks but a lot of them are new. i bought a columbia jacket for only 1250. g2000 jacket for only 250.00 g2000 skirts for only 200. izod long sleeve polo shirt (honey comb cloth) for only 150!!! also the maternity gap pants for only 350!!! i bought 3 pairs just for me =D hehehe... ralph lauren polo shirts for only 400. and many more!! can't wait for their next sale !! =D

dipolog vacation

just got back from dipolog last thrs. my eldest brother and his family, me and caden, my youngest brother, my cousin and a family friend all went there for my mom's birthday. we got her a mother pearl aquaracer tag heuer and a makeup set from estee. she loved it! the vacation was sooooo relaxing. we just watch dvd, sleep and eat =D hahaha... we went back to dakak 2x and rode jetski and they rode the banana boat. we stayed in dipolog for 1 week. it's so sad to go back here in manila again coz i'm going to miss my mom and dad. =( i miss them already =( sniff sniff....

went to the crocs sale again today to exchange the 2 right slipper that i bought yesterday. i arrived there at around 3pm. the line was sooooo long. it's a good thing i was returning a slipper so i was allowed to enter right away. they have so many stocks that arrived but i was in a hurry so i just took what i can and was going to pay for it already. the only problem was the only counter allowed that accept return was also lined up with so many people who are paying for their purchases! i can't wait that long because we still have to go somewhere. i tried talking with the one who is in charge of the return if i can cut in line just to exchange the item but they have a strict policy. so i ended up just getting a different color of the same design. it took me 1 hour and 30 mins just to get it! so stressful !!!! i was so in a hurry because malvin and caden were waiting for me in the car! i wished i was able to go back again because when i left, i saw they were unloading again another truckfull of stocks! waaaa....and they even give more discount for the other crocs style! like the old style they are already selling it at 590, and they marked it down to 390.00 only! waaaaaaaa.........

crocs megasale experience

i went to the crocs megasale today. i got there at 9am and the line to the entrance was already soooo long! it's a good thing there were clouds covering the sun and when the store opened at 10am, they almost let all the people in the line go in. there were soooo many people and crocs too =) i don't know where to start! i think i left at aroung 3pm already. i was so hungry! i spent almost 12k for 15 pairs of shoes! well mostly are for my son and christmas gifts already =D there's a funny thing that happened to me. i was so in a hurry to get the slippers that i wanted that when i got home and looked at it, i got both right foot =)) i guess i have to go back tom and shop again?? hahaha...

i just watch "TWILIGHT" on dvd this tuesday and i immediately bought the complete saga (4 books)! it's been so long since i read any novel and i'm glad i didn't get bored with these books. i'm on my last book, "breaking dawn" and i'm sad that i'm almost at the end of the story. i simple love the books! i sometimes read it till 3 it the morning! I can't put it down! i can't wait to watch "new moon" that will be showing this year.

also for the next book of stephenie meyer, " Midnight Sun: Edward's Version of Twilight".
